I have been into the fitness lifestyle my whole life and have always looked for that next thing to challenge myself.  I was involved in sports all through my teenage years.  Out of high school the next challenge seemed obvious to me; U.S. Marines!  I served as a Marine Scout Sniper for my enlistment.  While in the Marines I was contiually looking for a challenge, I had the chance to test myself in Army Airborne and Ranger school as well.  While in the Marines I received my first certification from ISSA as a personal trainer, which I put to use at our local base sweat box!

Once back out in the real world I pursued a career as a firefighter; while attending college and testing I worked as a personal trainer at several big name fitness chains.  In late 2003, now a firefighter for Parker Fire Department (South Metro Fire) I was introduced to CrossFit!  WOW, if I had only known in my early 20's.

I, along with a close friend, immediately integrated CrossFit into our fire academies.  We both received CF level one and ACE certifications.  We became one of the first in the nation to be a non-profit affiliate of CrossFit; CrossFit Parker Fire, currently known as CrossFit SMAC.  I led the fitness program at the fire department from 2003-2010.  In that time I coached/programmed CrossFit for the fire academies.

As head fitness trainer for the academies I realized I had never enjoyed instructing so much.  I am passionate about CF and the lifts.  I loved seeing young bad boys walk into the academy and be humbled by the program but then reach a new height in their fitness.  I also loved seeing an out of shape recruit losing 30+ pounds in three months and leaving the academy with that sense of accomplishment and pride.

That brings me to where I am now.  I am now in a position to affect athletes on a daily basis.  We have been open since Dec 2009 and I love seeing athletes losing inches, pounds and doing things they never thought possible!  CrossFit Parker is truly affecting and changing people's lives!

I am a graduate of the University of Nebraska-Lincoln.  I have a Bachelor of Science degree in Business Administration/Marketing. I first got involved in CrossFit about 7 years ago, after my husband, Ryan, found it and began to incorporate it into the Fire Department,  I started to see how he was changing, going from a good athlete to something beyond what even he thought he was capable of.  He was doing this by working out for around 20 minutes a day. As a busy stay-home mom that seemed like my kind of workout!  I started to join him in the workouts and quickly realized that even though I was a beginner I was able to do the same workout as him.  That felt great!  I especially liked that the workouts were always different and unexpected.  I never got bored and I always had a new challenge which kept me motivated to continue.

The longer I did CrossFit the more I loved how it is truly a fit for ANYONE!  I saw the results coming out of Ryan's academy classes every year.  There were instances that after 3 months of work I would hardly recognize the people walking into the academy graduation.  I saw guys drop serious weight and I saw women that couldn't do 1 pull-up leaving doing 30!

CrossFit Parker has given me the opportunity to teach functional fitness to everyone!  I am excited everyday when I see our athletes pushing beyond their perceived limits, not only in the WOD but in their daily lives too.  I feel it is such a blessing that I can be a part of sharing with them in their successes and I can hold them accountable for their goals.

I have been Crossfitting since the summer 2006. I am a husband, a father, a veteran and a firefighter for SMFR. I have been a fitness coordinator and fire academy fitness instructor for two years and counting. I am dedicated to healthy living and am constantly encouraged by the enthusiasm of others who have the same attitude. I love seeing how the incredible Crossfit Parker community has excelled both physically and emotionally. I am very thankful to be part of this team.

My athletic background consists of various high school sports, football, wrestling, baseball, and golf. I am a weekend warrior in a few different sports now. I ride motocross bikes, golf, and play softball.
I am an Air Force veteran and have a career in I.T. I am married to a beautiful wife and have 3 beautiful daughters.
I found Crossfit through some advice from a friend and immediately fell in love with the intensity and the underlying competitive atmosphere.  I was weighing in at 200 lbs and over 25% body fat when I first walked through the door at CFP.  In one year of consistent work outs and diet I am not only sitting at my ideal weight, but have added muscle and am looking and feeling better than I have since those days in high school.
I'm pretty old too...40 is staring me dead in the face. I'm getting to have more gray hair than brown these days. And even though I may not respond, I know who people are referring to when shouting out 'Hey old man!'  FYI...I mentally catalog these comments and will be exacting my revenge when leading classes. You have been warned!

When I walked into CFP for the first time in January of 2010 I thought I was fit. In actuality I was a skinny fat chick that could ride an elliptical for hours, but couldnt do a pull up. I had spent hundreds of hours doing cardio to reach my goal weight, and I was worried that Crossfit would make me too muscular and bulky.

Within 3 months of Crossfitting not only could I do a pull up, but I was able to lift more weight that I thought my body was physically capable of. What was even more amazing is that instead of bulking up, my body slimmed down. As happy as I was with all of the physical changes, I saw an even greater improvement in my attitude toward fitness and nutrition. As I progressed with Crossfit I became less concerned about how I looked, and more concerned with how I performed during my workouts. Instead of setting goals based on my body weight, I shifted my focus to my PR times and 1 rep maxes.

The greatest thing I have gained from Crossfit is freedom from the negative feelings I used to feel about my physical appearance. For the first time in my life, I am proud of my body. Not because I reached my goal weight, but because of all of the goals I have reached as an athlete. The Crossfit program and the team of trainers at CFP have helped me to achieve a level of physical strength and fitness that is far beyond what I thought was possible. More importantly, Crossfit has given me a positive body image, mental toughness, and a community of friends that push me to better myself every day. I am humbled to be a part of this team of trainers, and blessed to be a part of the Crossfit Parker family.

Since the age of 16 i had been a gym rat.. Exercise has allways been a major part of my life, but i had no idea then what my true physical capacity was or could be.  In 2008 while on my second tour in Iraq as a member of 2nd Bn 3rd Marines i read an article in Musscle and Fittness Magazine that changed not only my attitude towards fittness but my life forever.  Reading the article i was amazed by the streangth and speed of the featured Crossfit athelets.  After one month i was hooked forever.  I found it to be so functional for me.  Being an infantry Marine physical fittness was always a priority, imparticularly in combat.  After one month i was carying more weight farther faster and with less fatigue then ever before.  Patrols were less taxing which made my life drastically easyier.  That was just the begining.

I moved to Colorado in 2009 where i really began to foucus on Crossfit.  I obtained my level one certifacation in March of 2010 and began training at Crossfit South Auroura.  I moved to Crossfit Parker later that summer and have been there ever sence!

I'm a full time student at CU Denver majoring in Political Science and minoring in Economics, I am also a NRA certified firearms instructor and work at the Family Shooting Center in Cherry Creek State Park.  In my Crossfit life im currently preparing my self for the Crossfit Games 2012.

After twenty years of gymnastics and completing my gymnastics career in 2006 at Iowa State University, I was on the hunt to find something that fullfilled that missing part in my life.  Something with variety, intensity, and even the social aspect that goes along with it...something new I could become passionate about.  My initial attraction to Crossfit was the quick and intense workouts that would leave me feeling absolutely exhausted; I had spent my whole life at the gym before and did not want to spend hours at the gym anymore.  Crossfit became that thing in my life that pushed me, filled that missing part in my life and gave me the results I was looking for.  I soon found myself scheduling things around my Crossfit schedule, started competing and realized I wanted to take my passion of coaching and Crossfit and received my Level 1 certification.  Now I find myself back to spending hours at the gym again and loving every minute of it.

I was introduced to Crossfit in August of 2007, when I began the academy with Parker Fire.  I had never really followed a regular workout program before this, yes I did workout but it was just mirror muscle workouts: bi's and tri's, chest and back ect.  Never really got my heart rate up and had no clue about what a clean and jerk or a snatch was or what the proper form was for the squat, deadlift, press, pushpress, and pushjerk.
After five years of doing Crossfit I still hit PR's and there are still workouts that I have to modify so I can complete them, this is what keeps me coming back for more.  This program is perfectly in line with what I do as a firefighter short duration, high intensity, and constantly varied.  I look forward to sharing my knowledge with you and helping you reach your fitness goals.

Athletic History:
Ive had the privilege of being around athletics all of my life and have always been a huge fan of physical sports.  My dad is a college track coach and Ive had the opportunity growing up to see the training and preparation side of sports.  In high school I ran hurdles and pole vaulted (mostly because I could use better coached technique to overcome my physical deficiencies, something you cant do in a 100m all out sprint).  I also played football.  Since high school, Ive called firefighting my sport, whether it was testing for a job, competing in the Police & Fire Games or staying fit for an annual firefighter fitness test.  Lately Ive added chasing Wapiti in the Rocky Mountains as my sport and passion, something Ive found Crossfit is exceptional at preparing me for.

About Me:
Ive been with Parker Fire/South Metro Fire since 1998.  I am married and have 3 young children.  Thal and I found Crossfit in 2004 after google searching crosstraining, looking to change my traditional routine up a little bit.  I quickly learned what the initials W.O.D. stood for and tried Helennever looked back.
