| Katelynn 9:21am I've been a little bit of a slacker in making it in this week, mostly because of work and partially because I'm committed to walking/running twice a week to improve my endurance. (Totally rethinking this 140 mile race thing, ha ha... I've determined my partner is crazy.) In case you've managed to never see me run, you're probably unaware as to how terrible I actually am. One would think, 'Running? How hard is it?' Hard. And I have no idea why. I've ALWAYS hated it! The day we had to run a mile in junior high and high school were the days I DREADED. Despite being a competitive long distance swimmer in HS and college, I've never been able to run for any significant amount of time. I'm slow and lack MAJOR endurance. The first time I ran at CF, I couldn't even make it to the stop sign. YIKES. I was mortified. But, within a few weeks, I ran my first 400m w/o walking. I was super proud and set a goal to run a mile. (Gah... this feels so much like being the uncoordinated middle schooler who can't run the mile!) Last night, having worked late (again!), I took the dog for an off-leash training walk and figured for the heck of it, I could just start running and not stop until I wanted to. 37 minutes later, *I was still running*. I was blown away. I mean, I was going slow (uh, should probably call it jogging, lol), but according to my RunKeeper, I ran 2.8 freaking miles. I had no idea! I think I was so concerned with my dog (we were doing off leash training, so I was more focused on training him than I was on the fact that I was RUNNING) that I blew right past that point where I wanted to stop and just kept going. My marathon running friends (I prefer the title, 'Crazy persons who don't know bikes exist') tell me there's a 'second wind' sorta thing that to access, I just need to get over the hump of the first wall and then it becomes easier and dare I say, FUN. I've never believed them and always quit before I got to that point. Turns out, I should've listened... they were right! Anyway, I was totally blown away that I sailed so far past my goal of 1 mile and into almost 3 mile territory. There's no way I would've ever been able to do this on my own. I appreciate how much help and support I've been given, (even if my effort is only coming in 2x week, lol) and am left wondering how competitive of a swimmer I could've really been had I known a fraction about fitness as to what I know now.

Katelynn 9:28am Gah... why do I write such freaking novels?!?!? Also, not that I *love* this running thing, but I won't be in tonight as I'm heading up to the mountains to try my hand at snowshoe running with friends early tomorrow morning. But I promise... I don't really like this running nonsense. ;)

Alicia 9:45am Hi Katelynn- I have never been a runner myself, so I get what your saying. I think it's great you ran 2.8 miles. Little milestones like this mean the world!!! I think it's fabulous!! Keep up the great work and soon you will be running half or full marathons!! :)

Anney 2:51pm I am very proud of you Katelynn! Running takes a special tenacity and it's pretty awesome when you pass those milemarkers! If running distance is what you want to accomplish, then Rick's advice is definitely the way to go! Keep it up! You'll get there!
